Axial spondyloarthritis, another name for ankylosing spondylitis, is an inflammatory condition that may lead to the fusion of certain vertebrae in the spine over time. The spine becomes less flexible as a result of this fusing, which may cause a hunched posture. It could be challenging to breathe deeply if your ribs are hurt. Two kinds of axial spondyloarthritis exist. The disorder is known as ankylosing spondylitis, sometimes referred to as axial spondyloarthritis, when it is detected on an X-ray. Nonradiographic axial spondyloarthritis is the term used when the ailment cannot be seen on an X-ray but is discovered based on symptoms, blood tests, and other imaging studies. Symptoms usually start to appear in early adulthood. Other bodily parts might also become inflamed, with the eyes being the most prominent example. Ankylosing spondylitis has no known cure, however, treatments can alleviate symptoms and possibly halt the disease's progression.
